First Aid Kit Surprise Show

A few weeks back we posted about the impending tour by Swedish wunderkinds First Aid Kit. Well, they’re finally in the country and we are pleased to announce that they will be doing a surprise invite only gig at somewhere this Tuesday eve.

We have 15 double passes to give away to this special event catered by Grolsch. All you have to do is drop us a line at media@somewherestore.com and you’ll be in the draw.

First Aid Kit is the musical coupling of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, whose close vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. Hailing from Enskede, a southern suburb of Stockholm, the teenaged siblings began composing songs in 2007. Their YouTube video cover of Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by the Fleet Foxes spread their name rapidly on the Internet and audiences around the world have since been falling at their feet.

Whyred AW10

In the 1950s, artist Sven “X:et” Erixon, a painter known for his bold and lively hues, was asked during a radio interview to reveal his favorite color. “Red,” he replied. “Why red?” responded the host. “Well, blue then,” he countered.

Fast forward to 1998 when Erixon’s grandson, Roland Hjort, joined up with Lena Patriksson and Jonas Clason to launch Whyred, a label with both familial and conceptual ties to the world of art.

This season, they’ve drawn inspiration from the distorted realities created by acclaimed director Chris Cunningham to create a range of looks that balance technology and simplicity. It’s clean cut, sleek and will surely carry you through this season and the next.

DR.DENIM PARTY

To all of you who came out last rainy Thursday night to the Dr.Denim event , got treated, ate some naughty pastries and drank unidentifiable amounts of Russian Standard and Grolsch. We thank you.

The night was a hoot, a big shout out to the staff at Collingwood World who helped make the night extra special with their wonderful hospitality.

On the road again

We’ve been back in the motherland for the past few weeks enjoying the rainy Swedish summer and checking out next season’s collections.

Here is a little snap from the Gallery Fashion Fair in Copenhagen to make those manning the fort back home just a little jealous.

The weather may be dismal but the collections have made it all worthwhile. Every time we visit these fairs we leave with a renewed sense of inspiration sparked by the incredible array of talent on display. Expect to see a few new labels popping up in the store in the months to come.

Won Hundred

Won Hundred’s ‘Dressing in Memories’ collection is a modern take on key looks from decades past.

Harking back to the good ol’ days of the seventies, this collection emphasises the connection between fashion and history. The seasonally appropriate colour palette ranges from muted blues and greys to vibrant reds and yellows. As always, there is a clear focus on texture and fabric to create light and wearable pieces for the warmer months ahead.

A selection of tops, jackets and dresses are now available in store.

The Horse

Who’s going to keep you well heeled this winter? The Horse…of course.

We’ve just received two new styles from these talented young boot makers. There’s Hermine – the button-cute buckle-up leather number, and Ivy – a slightly more sophisticated lace-up available in leather and suede. Both are specifically designed for crunching those last few remaining autumn leaves and keeping your lower extremities high and dry in these sodden months.

CHEAP Monday AW10

Cheap Monday continue to embrace the grunge with their apocalyptic AW10 collection.

This is the first full collection to be released under the helm of the new creative director Ann-Sofie Back and her influence is apparent in the tough and textured pieces.

We’ve just received the first drop with more to follow in coming weeks.

First Aid Kit

Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg may only be 17 and 19, but they are already making their mark on the musical world.

As First Aid Kit, the pair has recently released their debut album The Big Black And The Blue.

Audiences at some of the worlds biggest festivals have been falling at their feet, and in a few weeks time, it will be Australia’s turn to be enchanted by their lofty melodies and warm vocal harmonies.

Australian fans can hear the songs from these releases – including the acclaimed cover of Fleet Foxes Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, which has now notched up over one million views on YouTube – when the pair tour in September.
