Salad Days follows a day in the life of four elderly friends: Franklin, Leslie, Violet and Laurence The Third. Although the characters are 60+ they live their lives in similar fashion to that of the 20-something urban hipsters. We ride along with them through the streets and parks as they defy convention and treat each turn of the pedal as a matter of life or denim.

This is the first collection to be released under the helm of Cheap Monday’s new creative director Ann-Sofie Back and her influence is apparent in the ripped, textured and tough pieces. Perhaps this is a little teaser of the direction she will eventually take for the brand.

Worn by middle-aged dads and hipsters alike, the boat shoe has been making some serious ground of late to bridge the generational style gap. First introduced in 1935, Sperry Top-Sider became the blueprint that so may others have followed. A perfect fusion of form and function, these puppies are hand sewn, water resistant and oh so dapper (especially when paired with a pair of cuffed chinos). The first colourway to arrive is navy and white with more to follow in a few weeks time.

Taking a slight departure from previous winters, it looks as if we are going to have a little colour thrown into the mix this year. Nikolaj Nielsen, the creative behind the aesthetic direction of Won Hundred knows exactly how to brighten up the autumn/winter seasons with beautiful pastels and traditional mens pieces like knit cardigans and checked shirts.

Created by British couple Sam Rush and Henry Allum, the debut collection merges traditional English sartorialism with contemporary silhouettes. Stand out pieces from the collection include the corduroy shorts and tailored shirts for the boys, and the pleated pinafores and leather waistcoats for the girls.

It’s preppy, sophisticated and just a little bit suave.

For Rachel’s latest work she has chosen to focus specifically on the men who have helped inspire, shape and colour her life.

Having designed clothes for her own boutique SUPAFUN from 1994 – 2004, which was situated in Brisbane’s Fortitude valley. Through the design process of her contemporary line Rachel is drawn (excuse the pun) to the details of garments, prints and patterns, texture, detail in fabric, stitching and design quirks.

“I like drawing my peers- for me drawing a person I don’t know personally makes no sense! Sounds a bit naff – but I feel that I understand their character, know their flaws, ambitions and motivations which in turn makes the image creation process so much more rewarding- hopefully this becomes evident through the expression of the drawing.”

The garment is a key part of the image making process, and considering her contemporaries are such individual and ostentatious dressers one can only be fascinated by the minute details of their day to day clobber.

By using minimal colour, usually only one at a time and through the effective use of white background space which is almost as vital as the drawing itself, Rachel highlights the characteristics, facial mannerisms and peculiarities of her closest friends and in doing so, gets to know them even better.

Rachel will showcase THE BOYS at Somewhere Gallery from the 10th of February through to the 3^rd of March.

The fabulous Jo Duck  snapped happy as Chelsea Wheatley from The BELLS danced, jumped and leapt in front of the camera in the most colorful of outfits.

The Saint Lucia holiday is a national celebration to help mark the winter solstice.  It is said that by throwing an all night party you help in keeping the approaching darkness at bay and with it all thoughts of the devil.

Traditionally, many sweets are devoured and lights are lit in Lucia’s honor, the procession is often headed by a girl wearing a woven crown with candles.

No woven crowns were to be seen on the night, there were, however, candles (and chrissie carols) and lots of good company.
